Senators to be endorsed on Monday

The Election Commission (EC) will endorse the new senators on Monday, commission chairman Vasana Puemlarp said yesterday.
Earlier, it was announced the EC would endorse the senators yesterday. However, the endorsements were postponed after the EC received reports that some election results had yet to be finalised. Vasana said he had ordered election officials to check all results again before submitting them to him. "If there are no problems we will endorse all 110 senators-elect on Monday," he said. Although they were still waiting for reports from some election officials, the commissioners had not yet issued a single yellow or red card in the Senate race, Vasana said. A yellow card voids a candidate's election results. A red card disqualifies the candidate from running in a by-election. However, a source from the EC said the commissioners were considering giving red or yellow cards to certain senators-elect who had made speeches at People's Alliance for Democracy rallies on the run-up to the election. Election law forbids campaigning by Senate candidates.
