Wedding industry booms

Business in the wedding-service industry will increase up to 10 per cent this year, according to Piccha Prakralertluck, marketing manager for TY Marriage Studio.
She also predicted that the cost of a wedding would rise 10-15 per cent due to cost increases associated with oil-price hikes. She said production costs for weddings had increased, especially for dresses and photo printing paper and many wedding-organising companies had already raised their own prices. However, the price increases are not expected to affect demand for wedding services, because most of those planning to get married are willing to pay for their special ceremony. The wedding-service industry was valued at Bt30 billion last year. Ladda Mongkolchaivivat, general manager of NCC Exhibition Organiser Co Ltd, said her company would hold the "Wedding Fair 2006" from May 25-28 at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre, under the theme of "A Romantic Wedding - You and Me Eternally". The event will feature 120 wedding services firms and related businesses like cosmetics companies, all of them offering special wedding packages. Ladda said the exhibition would yield wedding-service sales of Bt1.5 billion, up 25 per cent over last year's Bt1.2 billion.
