PEA too good for Polymate

[BASKETBALL] The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) charged past SK Polymate 88-68 in the preliminary round of the King's Cup Division A Basketball Championship at Siam University Gymnasium yesterday.
Led by national stars Apaipong Netsiri, Delip Rye and Wichai Jongkunklang, the experienced PEA were quite a handful for SK Polymate. Tied 20-all in the first quarter, PEA raised their game several notches to lead 40-34 in the second. The PEA's defensive set-up and splendid scoring by their forwards helped them control the game throughout the match. The PEA have four straight wins, while SK Polymate have two wins against a loss. The PEA will clash with Bangkok Bank for the top spot in Group B on May 6. In another men's competition, the star-studded Hi-Tech fielded top players Songkrit Thongpul, Jakkrapan Sillapaphipat and Piyapong Pirun to defeat underdogs Police 69-25 in Group A. Hi-Tech notched up a runaway 44-8 lead at half time. Later, the Police narrowed the gap to 23-53 but Hi-Tech, last year's champions, lived up to their top billing by making mincemeat of their rivals. Hi-Tech now have one win against one loss, while the Police ended their essay with four straight losses. In the women's division, promising Rattana Bundhit tamed Rak Nam Jai Club, featuring many veteran stars, 74-56 in Group A. With younger players and better teamwork, Rattana Bundhit took a 38-27 lead at half time. Trailing by 19 points and with time ticking away, Rak Nam Jai made a vain attempt to catch their rivals.
