The Bangkok Bank team will now battle for the top place in Group B after defeating the Royal Thai Navy side in the preliminary round of the King's Cup Division A Basketball Championship at Siam University Gymnasium yesterday.
The brilliant Mana Janthuma scored 19 points to help the unbeaten bankers defeat the winless Royal Thai Navy 93-68. The bankers have now won all four of their matches. The Bangkok Bank side will face the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) team for the top place in Group B on May 6, while the Royal Thai Navy are out of the competition after four straight losses. In the men's competition, the Police team suffered a 75-56 loss to the Phusiri Ruan Aiyara side in Group A. The Phusiri Ruan Aiyara team showed better teamwork and skills through all four quarters. They moved to a 40-20 lead in the halfway mark and the Police could not resist their aggressive attacks and went down 75-56. In a women's match the Hi-Tech team, which has former national team stars and some young blood including Sirirat Yonyothinkul and Sunisa Lakharn, edged past the Bangkok Bank 66-51 in Group B. Hi-Tech tightened their defence to lead 33-27 at half-time. The women bankers then tried to close the gap, but the Hi-Tech girls did not give them a chance to take the lead and Hi-Tech beat the Bangkok Bank 66-51 with Sunisa top scoring with 17 points.
