Chula Chom Klao award put on hold

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam told a Cabinet meeting yesterday that HM the King's decision not to bestow the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao this year was not unusual.
Wissanu briefed the Cabinet on the royal schedule for yesterday to May 15, which included events for Coronation Day on Friday. At 5pm on Coronation Day, HM the King usually grants an audience to those who will receive the decoration, but no audience was scheduled this year. Wissanu explained that this decoration differed from the royal decorations bestowed on December 5 in that it is granted at the King's initiative whereas the other decorations are bestowed following requests from government offices. Wissanu said that during the time he served as a Cabinet secretary there were several years when the King did not bestow the decoration. The Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao is only bestowed to a limited number of recipients, he added. The Nation
