It is debatable what is the best way of exercises; jogging, swimming or aerobic. But prison authorities, however, came up with a very unorthodox form of exercise -laughing.
They believed that laughing is the best way of exercising as it brought joys and happiness to everyone laughing.
It is not clear how they encouraged the prisoners to exercise laughing. But the authorities join hands to put together organising a "Laughing Contest."
Yesterday 26 inmates from 16 prisons entered the contest conducted in Samut Prakarn central prison. Each prisoner took turn laughing out loud.
Their laughing, voice and action were judged by a panel comprising Corrections Department officials.
The contest on Wednesday was open for both male and female prisoners, Thais and foreigners. The winners however were all female. The first two winners were from Bangkok Central prison while the third was a foreigner from Chonburi prison.
They won the laughing contest yesterday, but they have to fight on. It is because other prisons will dispatch their contestants to contest in a national laughing contest to be conducted soon at Pathum Thani Central Prison.
