True's low-cost broadband package

True Internet has introduced a low-cost broadband package aimed at encouraging dial-up users to switch to the faster technology.
The True Knowledge Junior Package offers speeds of 128 kilobits per second (Kbps) for a monthly fee of Bt295 for 30 hours of use. Additional hours will be charged at Bt12 per hour but the maximum bill per month will not exceed Bt590. There is a Bt500 registration fee and users will also be offered a hi-speed modem for only Bt1. True Internet's lowest broadband fee was previously Bt590 a month for a speed of 256 Kbps. True Internet, an Internet services subsidiary of True Corp Plc, said the package was aimed at wooing users on 56 Kpbs dial-up services and would pave the way for greater information and entertainment accessibility among households. Currently, a general dial-up Internet package costs around Bt12 per hour. True said the campaign was in line with the National Telecommunications Commission's policy to promote broadband Internet services at more affordable prices. True is targeting 600,000 broadband subscribers by the end of the year, up from the current 350,000. Another broadband service provider, TOT Plc, recently said it expected to have one million broadband subscribers by 2008, up from 150,000 at present. It forecast reaching 300,000 by the end of this year.
