Villagers in Sa Kaew continue with protest

Hundreds of villagers from Baan Nongwa and Baan Nong Ma-auek in Sa Kaew's Watthana Nakhon district yesterday continued their blockade at the entrance of the Professional Waste Technology Co - also known as Prowaste - which treats industrial waste.
The villagers are complaining the smell from the company's waste-water dumpsite has made their lives a misery for four years, and are demanding the industry minister order the company to close down the plant. Sa Kaew Governor Somboon Sripatanawat yesterday visited the site to investigate. Prowaste's management team told the governor the company had stopped transporting waste water to the plant in February. However, it admitted that about 20,000 cubic metres of waste water was still left at four plants on the 20 rai factory site, but that it could not be treated because villagers were blocking the road. Local community leaders said they had seen trucks transporting waste water to the plants before they blocked the road five days ago, adding they would continue their blockade until Prowaste was closed down.
