PTT highest SET earner in 2005

Even though 470 listed companies in 2005 posted an aggregate net profit of Bt514.43 billion, the best 10 performers accounted for almost 60 per cent of that, according to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
The 10 firms' total net profit grew to Bt306.1 billion from Bt225.2 billion in 2004. PTT Plc still performed the best last year with a net profit of Bt85.5 billion - far from the second-biggest profit-maker, Thai Petrochemical Industry Plc (TPI), at Bt60.8 billion. PTT, Thailand's largest oil and gas conglomerate, attributed its 2005 net profit to record-high fuel prices. In 2004 it logged a net profit of Bt62.7 billion. Siam Cement Plc's net profit in 2005 totalled Bt32.2 billion. PTT Exploration and Production Plc's net profit was Bt23.7 billion, Bangkok Bank Bt20.3 billion, Advanced Info Service Bt18.9 billion, and Siam Commercial Bank Bt18.9 billion. Thai Oil Plc posted a 2005 net profit of Bt18.7 billion, Kasikornbank Bt13.9 billion, and Krung Thai Bank Bt13 billion. Three of the top 10 firms saw their profits fall last year from 2004. They were Siam Cement, Advanced Info Service and Kasikornbank. According to the SET, 71 listed companies in 2005 lost a combined Bt195.2 million. Thai Denmark Swine Breeder Plc was the worst performer, with a net loss of Bt37.3 million. Srithai Food and Beverage Plc in 2005 reported a net loss amounting to Bt32.1 million, while Circuit Electronics Industry Plc was in the red by Bt31.1 million. PTT also posted the largest revenues - Bt960.8 billion. Thai Oil was second with Bt252.9 billion, Siam Cement third with Bt234.6 billion, TPI fourth with Bt206.3 billion. Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc was fifth with Bt116.5 billion, CP Seven Eleven Plc sixth with Bt98.9 billion, and Advanced Info seventh with Bt93.1 billion. Bangchak Petroleum Plc (BCP) was eighth with Bt86.5 billion, followed by BBL and PTTEP at Bt75 billion and Bt69.6 billion, respectively. The SET earlier announced that as of March 1, 216 listed companies declared dividends for 2005, collectively worth Bt 161.7 billion - up 7.9 per cent year on year. The top five industries with the highest dividends are esources, property and construction, technology, financial, and services. The resources group in the aggregate paid Bt45.5 billion in dividends, followed by the property and construction group with Bt31.2 billion. The technology group was the third-highest dividend payer, with Bt28.2 billion.
