HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
Constitution Court to meet today

The Constitution Court will convene today to review the legal issues relating to the election and the results of the repeat votes.
It will rule on key cases passed on by the Office of the Ombudsman, which questioned the electoral process and could lead to the cancellation of the election. The cases included whether the Election Commission was empowered to hand out rubber stamps with which to mark ballots. Another case filed by Thammasat University lecturers involves four legal issues: the hasty scheduling of the election; the lack of voter privacy due to ballot booth positioning; funding for small parties to contest the polls; and the EC's failure to conduct a formal review before endorsing the results.
SAC to consider Royal Decree Three lawyers last week presented a people's petition asking the Supreme Administrative Court to cancel the Royal Decree for the April 2 election, claiming the order was enacted incorrectly, without the approval of all the election commissioners. Meanwhile, the three opposition parties asked the court to rule on whether the Royal Decree to dissolve the House of Representatives was constitutional and whether the election held 37 days after the dissolution was fair for parties other than Thai Rak Thai.
