Five PAD leaders to report to police

More than 300 protesters in Phitsanulok, led by Boonlert Maitim, march to attack People’s Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul and his group yesterday despite the PAD cancelling its plan to rally in the province.
The five leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will report to police at the Crime Suppression Division this morning before holding another rally at Lumpini Park tomorrow, a group leader said yesterday.

Sondhi Limthongkul said the group would hold a rally starting at 5pm to encourage the Administrative Court, Supreme Court and the Con-stitution Court to find a solution to the political impasse following His Majesty the King's statement last Tuesday.

However, they would first present themselves to police today to prevent any possible trouble in the event the police asked for an arrest warrant from the court to arrest them tomorrow, he said.

Sondhi said he and his fellow leaders - Chamlong Srimuang, Somsak Kosaisuk, Somkiart Pongpaiboon and Pipop Thongchai - were confi-dent of their innocence and would hold a press conference after reporting to the police.

The police issued their second summons in a month for the five after a case was filed against them by Chalard Worachat for allegedly attempting to topple democracy. They failed to report on Friday.

PAD spokesman Suriyasai Katasila said the group would always be ready to hold major rallies if the Thai Rak Thai Party or Election Commission tried to violate the court's ruling.

Moreover, the PAD would start holding rallies in the provinces again later this month to show its power and would move on by calling for regional rallies later, he said.
