TRT sweeps 9 councils

The Thai Rak Thai Party yesterday swept the seats on nine of 14 district councils, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced.

The BMA held elections for 14 district councils and at press time, the ballot counting in 13 districts was complete, said Somsak Khong-mak, director of the Administra-tion and Registration Division of the BMA's Office of the City Clerk.

Somsak said the results from the 13 districts showed that the Democrat Party won in four districts - Bang Kapi, Min Buri, Saphan Sung and Wang Thong Lang.

He said Thai Rak Thai won in nine districts - Lat Phrao, Sai Mai, Lak Si, Khan Na Yow, Khlong Sam Wa, Chatuchak, Bang Khen, Lat Krabang and Bueng Kum.

The counting in Don Muang district had yet to be completed, he said.

Earlier, Thai Rak Thai deputy leader Sudarat Keyuraphan alleged there were irregularities in the elections in Bang Khen and Min Buri.

She said the BMA did not require voters to sign for their ballots and that voters at some polling stations had cast multiple votes.

According to Sudarat, the Thai Rak Thai official who discovered the alleged repeat voting was assaulted.
