EC to face two lawsuits

The Administrative Court yesterday agreed to consider two separate petitions against the Election Commission, both requesting the April 2 election be nullified.

The first lawsuit was filed by a 10-member group led by Dr Pramuan Weruttamasen, a member of the People's Alliance for Democracy, a day after the election.

The group claimed the configuration of the voting booths for the April 2 election breached Article 104 of the Constitution, which stipulates voting must be direct and confidential. "The position of the voting booths in the April 2 election allowed others to see who people voted for," argued the group. That is the basis of its request that the election be nullified.

The second petition was filed by Nonthaburi resident Poepong Banluewongse, who also alleged the configuration of the polling booths was illegal.

He asked the court to nullify the election in Nonthaburi.
