EC disqualify candidates of small parties

Some candidates running under the umbrella of small parties in Saturday's third round of elections in the South have been disqualified.
No Thai Rak Thai candidates, who have repeatedly failed to win the legally required 20 per cent support from their constituencies, have been disqualified. The Songkhla Election Commission (EC) yesterday disqualified a candidate from the Thai Farmer Party, because it did not have enough members to be defined by the constitution as a party. Two candidates were also disqualified in Trang on Thursday. But Trang still has four candidates running in this round. In Nakhon Si Thammarat, the EC disqualified two candidates yesterday. In the first and second elections, Thai Rak Thai candidates, some running as the only candidate, failed to win 20 per cent of the vote, the minimum required to win the election. The April 2 general election failed to elect 500 parliamentarians, as did a second round of polling on April 23. The Nation
