Central woos World Cup watchers

Central Pattana Co Ltd, the operator of the Central department store chain, is partnering with Chang Beer, Mastercard and Kom Chad Luek newspaper to arrange the Central Plaza Cheer World Match - a campaign to get people to enjoy World Cup 2006 outdoors rather than stay at home.
Central expects the Bt15-million campaign will boost its business by 15-20 per cent, while Thai Beverages Marketing Co Ltd, the brewer of Chang Beer, hopes to see a 15-per-cent sales increase. Activities and promotions include Junior Soccer Challenge 2006, Central Plaza Cheer World Cup Road Show - which will showcase World Cup history and sell related items at Central's eight branches - 12 free trips to five World Cup stadiums, and "Win Bt1 Million in a Free Kick Game". Pravit Janyasittikul, Central Pattana vice president for promotions, said the campaign would lure people to come out and shop at Central. Meanwhile, Somchai Suthikulpanit, Thai Beverage senior deputy managing director, expects people to enjoy cheering football teams in restaurants, which will boost sales of Chang. Somchai said Thai Beverage would give free live broadcasting signals to all restaurants that approach the company. He expects 3,000 restaurants nationwide to participate. In return, the restaurants must promise to sell all beer brands to their customers. Nitida AsawanipontThe Nation
