Sondhi a no-show

Government critic Sondhi Limthongkul yesterday postponed meeting police to respond to lese majeste charges brought against him because he had to join a People's Alliance for Democracy rally in Surat Thani, his lawyer Suwat Apaipakdi said.

The police called Sondhi to answer the charges on Sunday or Monday this week but Suwat met the police on his own. He said his client would meet with police on May 17.

Suwat said Sondhi went to the PAD's rally in Surat Thani province on Monday night and yesterday travelled to Koh Samui to make a speech, the lawyer said.

"If Sondhi refused to visit Samui it might spoil the rally because he had already accepted the invitation," he said.

"He will answer the charges and stay in Thailand but must also make speeches across the country," Suwat added.
