Thai Rak Thai has replaced several "tired and discouraged" candidates for the third round of voting in the South, party deputy spokesman Jatuporn Promphant said yesterday.
The move comes after the Election Commission announced a third ballot in 13 southern constituencies where candidates from the ruling Thai Rak Thai Party failed to get the 20 per cent of votes required to ensure their election as an MP. Jatuporn said former candidates in the three constituencies were discouraged and tired of campaigning. "Furthermore, in the two lots of voting results, they found that their votes had not increased," the deputy spokesman said. Thai Rak Thai has decided to change three candidates. Prakorb Tamsrithong has been replaced by Arkhom Suwarnnop in Nakhon Si Thammarat's constituency 8. In Surat Thani's constituency 3, Praset Bunprasop has replaced Choochai Thongkhao. And in Trang's constituency 1, Suphachai Jaisamut has replaced Kraisin Totaptieng. Kraisin put out a statement explaining his decision not to stand for the third vote in Trang. The election results showed, he said, that most people were directed to vote according to their "political feeling" without considering the candidate. However, Kraisin said he respected the voters' decision and would continue to work for people in Trang.
