Pedal power better: Govt

The Interior Ministry has urged its 8,000 officials to ride bicycles to work as part of an energy-conservation campaign.
Caretaker Interior Minister Kongsak Wantana said officials should bike to work to set an example to the country. The ministry also plans to create bike-lanes on local roads in every province and will order governors to fast-track the plan. Kongsak will go to Nan province today to open bike-lanes on the province's roads. Meanwhile, some dealerships in Nakhon Ratchasima say sales of electric scooters have surged due to the rising cost of petrol, while the owner of a motorcycle dealership said sales of petrol-powered motorbikes had dropped more than 50 per cent over the past three months. He was selling only 20 motorcycles a month since the price of petrol surged. Another dealer in the province said monthly sales had fallen from 200 to about 70. - The Nation
