Govt clears twins' MDs

The Public Health Ministry's fact-finding committee concluded yesterday that doctors at Nakhonping Hospital had done nothing wrong in the case of stillborn twins from a Caesarean section.
The panel found that the bursting of the mother's amniotic sac had torn blood vessels inside the boys' umbilical cords, leading to internal bleeding and death. The committee was established to look into the case after the father lodged a police complaint against the Chiang Mai hospital on Thursday and demanded Bt3 million in compensation. The father believed that the hospital's doctors were at fault because earlier this month his wife had been told that both she and the foetuses were in good health. Dr Wirach Phanpanich, deputy director of Nakhonping Hospital, said ruptured blood vessels inside an umbilical cord was a rare condition and difficult to detect.
