Four new-wave artists, Arin Rungjang, Kata Sangkhae, Kornkrit Jianpinidnun and Pratchaya Phinthong, display their diversities in "Melting Place Exhibition" at Bangkok University's Gallery.
Pratchaya and Kata showcase their abstract ideas through installations, while Arin presents his at-the-moment art creations based on water. Kornkrit shares his stories with a slide projector. This is the first exhibition to be held at the university's newly built gallery that's fondly known as "bug", at the Kluaynamtai campus. The show runs from April 29 to June 10, and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am to 7pm. Call (02) 350 3626.
Understanding Aids To raise public awareness about the need to understand and care for HIV-positive children, the "we understand group" is holding an art, music and drama festival on April 29 called "Who Am I Why I Am Here". The Baimai Paa group will help children make their own books while noted artist Chalit Nakpawan will teach them how to create paper sculptures. G-One and friends will entertain kids with live music and drama. Actor Assadawut Ruengsoonthron will be the emcee. The festival will be held in the Muang Thai Life Assurance auditorium on Ratchadapisek Road from 10am to 5pm. The painting and photograph exhibition will continue through May 7. Modern mystique Bangkok-based, Danish-Armenian artist Elizabeth Romhild invites all to a four-day preview of her upcoming solo exhibition in Denmark. "Cynosure", which runs from May 25 to 28 at H Gallery, will feature 10 of her recent oils. An amalgam of Western and Eastern artistic traditions, Romhild's flowing compositions reinterpret and blur modern European art genres with Oriental mystique manifesting her own idiosyncratic evocations. Through dynamic interplay of colourful and rhythmic structuring, her art playfully expresses feminine sensuality, sensibility, control and role-playing. H Gallery, at 201 Sathorn Road Soi 12, is open from noon to 6pm. Call (01) 310 4428.
