IN BRIEF
Honda stays atop motorbike market

AP Honda Co Ltd says it remains the leader in the Thai motorcycle market, holding a 62-per-cent stake of a market that saw sales hit 573,000 units in the first quarter of this year.
The overall market grew 9 per cent in the first quarter, Honda said. Yamaha was the No 2 player, with sales of 136,000 units, and Suzuki was third with sales of 67,762 units. Analysts expect sales to rise in the second quarter as some consumers delayed purchases in the first quarter. However, rising petrol prices and interest rates as well as tougher conditions on loans would restrain sales growth, they said. One analyst said planned marketing incentives were likely to result in higher sales. -The Nation.
Orchid exports set to bloom this year The Agriculture Department forecasts exports of Thai orchids will total Bt10 billion this year. Adisak Sreesunpkit, director-general of the department, said the "Rachaphruek Royal Flora 2006" fair later this year will help market the Kingdom's flowers and increase exports. Adisak said the event would push the value of the country's orchid exports from Bt4 billion last year to Bt10 billion this year. In addition, the fair will also benefit farmers by providing them with new technology, ways to deal with insects and cutting-edge techniques to improve quality.- The Nation.
