Democrat boycott under fire

An activist yesterday petitioned the Office of the Attorney-General to prosecute the Democrat Party for allegedly undemocratic activities.

Thepanom Siriwithayarak, chairman of the Assembly for the Northeastern Farmers, signed the petition. Thepanom invoked Article 63 of the Constitution empowering him or any citizen to alert state prosecutors to offences against democracy.

The Democrat's election boycott was undemocratic, he said.

He also urged state prosecutors to determine whether the Democrats violated the Constitution by pushing for royal intervention to replace an elected prime minister.

Sirisak Akarapridi, secretary to the attorney-general, said the petition would be reviewed.
