Thailand A take women's title

[BEACH VOLLEYBALL] Thailand's top pair Kamolthip Kulna and Jarunee Sannok beat Thailand B's Yupa Phukrongploy and Usa Tenpaksee to take the women's title at the Samila Asian Beach Volleyball Tour in Songkhla yesterday.
New Zealand A took the men's title after beating Kazakhstan B in a tough three-setter. In the all-Thai women's final, Kamolthip and Jarunee lived up to their top billing as two-time SEA Games champions after overcoming their younger compatriots Yupa and Usa in straight sets 21-14 30-28. "We are very happy because it is beyond where we set our sights. We played without pressure today and we thought our good preparation and good communication helped us win the matches against Japan A [semi-final] and Thailand B," said Kamolthip. Kamolthip and Jarunee beat Chiaki Kuzuhara and Satoko Urata of Japan A 21- 19 21-17 in the earlier semi-final. Yupa and Usa powered past Japan B's Shinako Tanaka and Eiko Koizumi 21-19 21-13 in the other semi-final. Chiaki and Satoka beat compatriots Shinako and Eiko 16-21 21-13 15-12 in the third place play-off. New Zealand A's Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead came from behind in their 17-21 21-13 15-11 final win over Kisele Voleg and Alexey Kulinich of Kazakhstan B, who had earlier stunned Indonesia A's Andy Ardiyansyah and Prasetyo Darkuncoro 11-21 21-17 15-13 in the semi-final. Indonesia A then went on to beat Dmitriy Vorobyev and Pavel Zabuslayev of Kazakhstan A, who lost to Pitman and Lochhead in the semi-final, in straight sets 17-21 22-24 in the third place play-off.
