IN BRIEF
Brazil retain foot volley title

World No 1 Brazil defeated Spain to retain their crown at the World Foot Volley League on Saturday night.

Marcelo Freire De Lima and Odilon De Carvalho Supra used their superior speed and defence to beat Sergio Antolis Gonzalez and Ricardo Jorge Gimeno in straight sets 18-6 and 18-17.

De Lima was also named "Best Player" of the tournament, while Thanee Ruangsri from Thailand A won the "Most Spectacular Player" award.

Meanwhile, a VIP British team comprised of John Barnes and Niall Quinn beat the VIP Thai team of Piyapong Pew-on and Noppachai Matthaweewong in a single set exhibition match 18-10. After the match, Quinn said he would form a national foot volley team back home in Ireland and hoped to draw former Manchester United star Roy Keane to play in the next tournament in Thailand.

Prapoot Kamlangake, secretary-general of the Foot Volley Association of Thailand (FVAT), said the competition had been a success in terms of management.

In terms of results, the FVAT will send athletes to sharpen their skills in other international events, he said. - The Nation.
