Kingdom's nine 'top problems'

The Democrat Party yesterday claimed the nation faced nine crises brought about by government policies.
Its spokesman Ong-art Klampaiboon said Thaksin Shinawatra's administration had left the following unresolved:1. Intensifying corruption. 2. Morality has been cast aside when appointing people to political positions during the past five years. The sale of Shin Corp shares to Singaporean Temasek Holdings was seen as the final straw. 3. Government domination over organisations, such as the National Counter-Corruption Commission, has cast doubts over their independence. 4. Laws have been interpreted in favour of the Thai Rak Thai Party. 5. Government powers used for the sake of the administration, not the people. 6. Nepotism in government projects and concessions profited the family and friends of ministers with at least 20-30 per cent of the project budgets. 7. Temporary benefits were given to rural communities to boost votes for Thai Rak Thai Party, despite their impermanence. 8. Conflicts of interest between the country and its politicians are ongoing. 9.
