Policeman takes son, 3, out on the beat

The reality of Songkran hit home for a police officer in Ayutthaya province, who had to carry his three-year-old child along with him while on night duty because his wife needed to work through the holiday.

Officer Pongnaret Tispak, 30, went on duty with his son while his wife Jarunee completed a factory nightshift.

The couple also have a three-month-old baby who is cared for a babysitter whom they pay  Bt3,500 per month.

Pongnaret said his son, Mix had been with him while he was on duty since he was two months old.

He said he had put his boy in front of him as he sped after

criminals on his motorbike and Mix had visited crime scenes and been present when corpses were identified.

Mix said he hoped to become a soldier rather than a police officer when he grew up.

Pongnaret's boss, Colonel Phoomphan Pornyaipong, said

he sympathised with the officer but admired his commit-

ment. Phoomphan said he tried to give Pongnaret less demanding duties.
