Fire sweeps through foam factory

A blaze swept through a foam-packaging factory in Pathum Thani yesterday, causing an estimated Bt50 million in damage.

Major Prasert Waenkaew of Khlong Luang police station said the cause of the fire was still unclear as factory workers had given conflicting accounts.

General manager Pramarn Charernkitphan said EPE Packaging Co had more than 200 employees, but only nine were at the scene as most were off for Songkran.

One worker told police the fire started where a forklift was parked to charge its battery, so a short circuit could be responsible.

However, Krisada Sri-ban, another worker, said flames spread from near the storage area for the foam, which is used to produce packaging for electronic goods.
