Kamolthip, Jarunee in quarters

[BEACH VOLLEYBALL] Two-time SEA Games champions Kamolthip Kulna and Jarunee Sannok yesterday braved the scorching heat to rout Australian pair Joanna Healy and Heike Jensen in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Samila Asian Beach Volleyball Tour at Samila Beach.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Kamolthip and Jarunee trounced Vietnam B's Luong Thi Hong Gam and Huynh Do Hong 21-6 21-7 in just 21 minutes in the second round. The Thais, who finished third in the first leg in Phattalung, lived up to their billing as the best among the locals by powering past Joanna and Heike 21-15 21-9 in the third round. The victory enabled them to set up an all-Thai quarter-final with Thailand B's Yupa Phukrongploy and Usa Tenpaksee today. Yupa and Usa, the SEA Games silver medallist who got a bye, defeated KK Geethika Lalani Gunawardna and WW Sujeewa of Sri Lanka A 21-16 21-6 in the second round. In the third round, Yupa and Usa thrashed Vietnam A's Nguyen Thi Tiep and Phan Thi Cam Hong 21-11 22-20. Thailand C's Nonglak Khorsoongneon and Supannee Doksantia emulated their countrywomen by beating Hong Kong A's Wong Wai-fong and Cheng Mei-ling 21-11 21-4 in the second round.
