Hat Yai voters to abstain, again

About half the residents of Hat Yai plan to tick the "no vote" box in the by-election on April 23, Hat Yai University Poll said yesterday.

About 63 per cent of those surveyed said they cast abstention ballots on April 2 because they disapproved of the election, the pollster said.

Sixteen Thai Rak Thai candidates will again run unopposed in constituencies where they failed to pass the minimum-vote requirement in the first round of voting.

One in two southern voters want the outcome of the April 2 election cancelled and a fresh vote called, the poll found.

Asked to choose a candidate for prime minister from the Thai Rak Thai party-list, 35 per cent of those surveyed said they had no opinion, while 21 per cent opted for Somkid Jatusripitak and 15 per cent said Pongthep Thepkanchana.
