Man gets 8 years for attempted robbery

The Criminal Court yesterday handed an eight-year prison term to a man who confessed to trying to rob another man of his Bt3,000 mobile phone at knifepoint.
Nakhon Si Thammarat native Saravuth Polklam, 20, was convicted of armed robbery and carrying a weapon without a sound reason. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a Bt90 fine, but as his confession was useful to the case, the court reduced the punishment to eight years in jail and a Bt60 fine. At about 2am on June 26, Chairat Dechwiroj and a friend were standing at the entrance to the Rama IX subway when Saravuth and two friends - who remain at large - approached Chairat and tried to snatch his mobile phone. Chairat handed over the phone when the men threatened him with a knife. Pol Sergeant Sitthisak Ken-ong, who was passing by , arrested Saravuth and seized the knife.
