True ups ante in price war

True Move has kicked off a new prepaid package to attract new customers and counter its competitors' heavy promotions.
The offer will last for six months. During the first month, subscribers can make a call to any network for Bt1 per hour from 11pm to 5pm the following day, and Bt3 for the first minute then Bt1 for each subsequent minute from 5pm to 11pm. The company's marketing director Suphakit Vuntanadit said yesterday that the company had no choice but to make the move if it wanted to stay in the running in the cell-phone marketplace. For the following five months, the same rates apply only to calls within the network. Calls to different networks will be billed Bt3 for the first minute and Bt1 for subsequent minutes. Suphakit said that new packages for True Move's existing prepaid and post-paid customers would be available after the Songkran festival. The company has set a target to add 1.2 million new customers this year to its existing subscriber base of 4.8 million. He said that the net number of new subscribers in the first quarter this year was expected to be the same in the fourth quarter last year. The third-largest cellular operator posted a net addition of 188,607 subscribers in February, a 1.4 per cent month-on-month gain. Sirivish Toomgum, The Nation
