Arrests in Chon Buri murder

Two accused robbers have been arrested after allegedly breaking into a policeman's house in Chon Buri, killing his mother and contributing to his father's fatal injuries.
Police allege they wanted money to buy drugs. Lee Sukhonan, 24, and Anuchit Mattiko, 20, were caught together with three accomplices carrying stolen property - Bt94,200 in cash and 27 pieces of gold jewellery - on Sunday night, 17 hours after the alleged crime. The men raided the house of Pol Lt-Colonel Kampol Leelapra-paporn, deputy superintendent of Provincial Police Region 2, before stabbing his mother Niorn to death. Kampol's father, Chusak, was seriously injured trying to escape by jumping from an upper floor of the house. He later died of internal injuries. Lee and Anuchit have been charged with burglary and murder and three others with accepting stolen goods, said Maj-General Chongrak Juthanont, superintendent of Provincial Police Region 2. Both Lee and Anuchit are said to have confessed. Police said Lee punched and hit the couple and stabbed Niorn to death before forcing Chusak to open a safe in the house. Chongrak said Lee had only been released from prison early this month, was unemployed and had committed the crime to get money for drugs. He allegedly said he killed Niorn because she resisted him. Chongrak said the two men had a history of robbing people. Police yesterday took Lee and Anuchit to re-enact the crime before a mob of 1,000 angry people, who attempted to lynch the pair.
