Two people yesterday identified themselves as the children of a man who was captured in a photo as he led a mule ridden by His Majesty the King in 1969.
Thammanoon Morpoh-koo, 47, and his younger sister Saisamorn produced the memorable photo to reporters to prove their claim.
"The man in the photo is our father. All seven of my siblings have a copy of this photo in their houses," Thammanoon said.
As part of the celebrations of His Majesty's 60th year on the throne, a committee is looking for people seen in select pictures of His Majesty taken while he travelled around the country to visit his subjects. The photo Thammanoon referred to is one of the select photos.
According to Thammanoon, his father - Chaju Morpoh-koo - was a local leader in a mountainous area of the North where hilltribe people still grew poppies to make a living nearly four decades ago. During that time, His Majesty frequently visited the northern region and gave sheep to the local people so that they could raise livestock instead of growing poppies.
"Back then, I was about 10 years old but I do remember that my father provided the mule for His Majesty during a trip to visit hilltribe people. His Majesty had a warm talk with them," Thammanoon said.
He said his father was granted an audience with His Majesty on several occasions and that the King was very kind.
Thammanoon said he did not know how his father had acquired the photo, which was considered an auspicious and revered object in his family.
