Oki raises its stake in Business Logistics

Oki Logistics, an affiliated company in charge of Oki Electric Industry's logistic activities, has acquired a 49-per-cent stake in Business Logistics (Thailand).
The Japan-based company said in a press release that it had bought the stake from IBM Japan Business Logistics on March 30. With the acquisition, the Oki group - a major telecommunications manufacturer - holds 73 per cent of Business Logistics' shares: 49 per cent through Oki Logistics and 24 per cent via Oki Systems (Thailand). Oki Logistics also holds the management rights of Business Logistics (Thailand). "Acquiring the management rights of Business Logistics will enable us to establish and ensure a logistics base in Thailand. This is a significant step for our global operation strategy," said Yasuaki Ozawa, president of Oki Logistics. "We believe Business Logistics' experience will give us great influence over our business in Thailand, which will lead to a more efficient supply chain management worldwide for the Oki group as well as for our customers." The Oki group positions Thailand as an important production base as it provides various printers and semiconductors to customers throughout the world. To respond to increasing production capacity, Oki Logistics needed to establish an optimum scheme to support global operations. Bringing Business Logistics, known for its strong track record with IBM in Thailand, into the Oki group was the perfect solution, the company said. Founded in 1997, Business Logistics (Thailand) has been growing steadily as a logistics company, providing services and consultation, plus designing and manufacturing packaging materials. It now has 16 employees. For the fiscal year ending March 2007, the company anticipates Bt250 million in sales. "We are very pleased to join the Oki group and to function as the Thailand office for Oki Logistics. This new development will enable us to be more effective in conducting our business in the future," said Masanori Wada, president of Business Logistics (Thailand). "We can contribute not only in enabling Oki to reduce costs, shorten delivery lead times and make logistic operations more efficient, but we can also provide higher quality and superior services to our customers."
