Mob's top leaders come under fire

A senior police officer yesterday accused the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) of myriad criminal violations relating to its anti-Thaksin protests.
Colonel Banchob Sudjai, former superintendent of Tha Kham police station, singled out five PAD leaders, Chamlong Srimuang, Somsak Kosaisuk, Pipop Thongchai, Somkiart Pongpaiboon and Sondhi Limthongkul as suspects.Banchob complained that Chamlong committed lese majeste on Monday, when he said in a televised news clip that he had to consult other PAD leaders before allowing a royal motorcade to pass a protest site near Government House. At the time, the PAD had sealed off Phitsanulok Road and traffic police were attempting to reason with Chamlong to open the road, which was a designated route for His Majesty the King travelling from Hua Hin to the Chitralada Villa, Dusit Palace, he said. "Chamlong's remarks can be only be construed as the PAD having a say as to whether the royal motorcade could pass through its rally," he said. He said the PAD leaders tried to incite people to break the law, citing as evidence their rally speeches at Siam Paragon March 29 urging people not to pay taxes. The Nation
