Kamnan Poh verdict delayed

The lawyer representing former influential kamnan Somchai Khunpluem in a corruption trial yesterday asked Chon Buri provincial court to postpone today's reading of the Supreme Court's verdict in the case because one of Somchai's co-defendants was sick and not likely to show up.
Sa-nga Thanasa-nguanwong said he submitted an additional list of defence evidence to Chon Buri provincial court for further deliberation last week. The court has already postponed the reading twice - on February 24 and March 23 - at the defence's request, citing the health of Winai Somsap, the third defendant.Somchai, better known as Kamnan Poh of tambon Saen Suk in the seaside resort town of Bang Saen in Chon Buri, was one of five defendants to go on trial for corruption three years ago. The charge involves a garbage-disposal project then under Somchai's supervision. The former kamnan and his two remaining co-defendants, including Winai, were all found guilty by both the Chon Buri court and the Court of Appeal and sentenced to jail terms of five years and four months each.
