Bid-rigging charges for 3 BMA staff

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) yesterday said three officials would be transferred for alleged involvement in the Bt20-billion bid-rigging scandal involving road-construction contracts as its probe deepens.
Pattarut Tantranon, deputy director of the Public Works Department, and department engineers Uthai Khankaew and Manusak Binyafal, will be moved to the BMA permanent secretary's office while the probe continues, BMA deputy spokesman Jakrapan Pornnimit said. The officials severely breached their duties, the BMA said. They could be fired and lose their pensions. The names of officials accused of less severe breaches of duty could not be revealed as the investigation is still under way, Jakrapan said. The probe did not include political officials as that was the responsibility of the National Counter Corruption Commission and the Department of Special Investigation, he said. Lesser breaches of duty are punishable by demotion, salary cuts or probation, BMA inspector Suchart Jampakhao said. Those accused of breaches of regulations will be notified in 15 days and the probe will be completed in 180 days, he said.
