'Matichon' journo beaten up near polling station

A Matichon newspaper reporter was beaten up in front of numerous onlookers as he covered Sunday's voting in Saraburi province.

Kamolrat Suphannok, 44, said he was attacked as he walked to his car when two men punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The reporter fought back and was hit several more times before the attackers fled with one running through the crowded polling station, Kamolrat said.

The victim went to hospital and filed a complaint, saying he was convinced the attack was politically motivated.

He said the People's Alliance for Democracy had asked him to join a debate and his performance might have angered some people.
