Women's players join Viet League

[VOLLEYBALL] A quartet of Thai women's players will follow Patcharee Saengmuang's successful footsteps by competing professionally overseas in the Vietnam League.
Last month the Volleyball Association of Thailand (VAT) sent Patcharee, the first Thai to play professionally in China many years ago, to play in Vietnam after signing a contact with the Volleyball Association of Vietnam. The VAT also gave the green light to three veteran players - Piyamas Koyjapoh, Kesinee Ritthawat and Wassana Sengsen - plus young star Orn-uma Sutthirak to join Patcharee last week. The four players will receive a monthly salary of US$1,500 (Bt60,000) each, while Patcharee, who had experience in the Russian League two years ago, will get about Bt80,000 per month for her efforts. "We didn't send our good players there because we didn't want Vietnam to study our players' tactics. Three of them are senior players, who will soon be retiring from the national squad, while Orn-uma is just a national junior player," said VAT secretary-general Shanrit Wongprasert. "The Vietnam League will be contested in two sessions. The first one was from March to April, with the other one from October to November. Our girls could not complete in both sessions because the second one is very close to the Asian Games in Doha."
