PAD moves to have poll results frozen

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) yesterday submitted an urgent petition asking for a court order to suspend the release of voting results pending litigation against the Election Commission (EC).

The PAD has accused the EC of violating voter privacy and asked the Central Administrative Court to nullify Sunday's election.

It argued that voters had their privacy violated after the EC had repositioned voting booths allowing onlookers to see how ballots were marked.

Pending a judicial review on the matter, it said the election outcome should be put on hold.

The EC is scheduled tomorrow to announce the official balloting results.

In a separate attempt to dispute the election outcome, Chulalongkorn University lecturer Chaiyan Chaiporn suggested amending the election laws to

cancel the election if abstention ballots outnumbered candidacy votes.
