DSI seeking suit against marketing companies

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) yesterday urged the Attorney General's Office to file a Bt1-billion fraud suit against the heir to the British Dispensary business empire and executives from two direct-sales companies.
Luanchai Vongvanij and eight other board members of Green Planet 108 and Ruam Ruay Arcane International were taken to the Attorney General's Office yesterday by DSI officers, along with seven boxes of evidence and a DSI report, suggesting a lawsuit will be filed against them. It will be announced on May 4 if the case is to proceed. The suspects posted Bt2 million each for bail, said Watcharin Panurat, a lawyer at the Special Litigation Department. They allegedly lured 50,000 victims into the direct-sales business with promises of high payments, leading to around 1,000 complaints and evidence given to the DSI and public prosecutors, he said. In a separate case, public prosecutors filed similar charges in a criminal lawsuit against Green Planet 108 and Ruam Ruay Arcane and three executives. Investigations are being carried out in 30 provincial courts to collect further evidence from the 500 alleged victims in the case. The trial is due to begin at the Criminal Court in August.
