Thaksin is politically bankrupt : Chamlong

Chamlong Srimuang, leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, on Monday said the election outcome showed that the majority of the people no longer wanted Thaksin Shinawatra as their prime minister.
"Judging from the unprecedented 'no vote' ballots, Thaksin is no longer fit to serve because his Party has been politically bankrupt," he said.Chamlong said it was a foregone conclusion that Thaksin should quit politics for good, noting that his flawed leadership had usherd in a darkest chapter of Thai political history. Speaking hours before Thaksin outlined his political stand aired by Channel 11 last night, he said the ruling party's call for reconciliation was a pretext to allow Thaksin to cling to power. "Just picture this - a thief broke into our homes, then asked us to remain idle for the sake of reconciliation. This is unacceptable," he said. The PAD is scheduled today to convene a meeting to map out its new measures in light of the election outcome. Suwit Watnu, another PAD leader, said the PAD will stop protesting only after Thaksin pledged never to resume his politicking. Suwit said the PAD would wait till Thaksin named his successor before deciding whether to end street protests. In regard to the police threat to cite the traffic law to disperse the crowds, Suwit said protesters braced for the arbitrary law enforcement. The Nation
