Leather show draws orders

Eight Thai leather-manufacturers attending the recent MIPEL International Leather Goods trade show in Italy gained orders worth about Bt50 million from global buyers, said the delegation.
Representing local brands were Albedo, Eleganza, Grand Croix, Jacob, Marwell, Michel Angelo, Praco and Vazzini. Chairman of the Thai Leather Goods Association Tawat Jew yesterday said the eight brands had received positive feedback at the event, which drew participants from Germany, France, Italy, South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Organiser JSL Co Ltd, which also oversees the Bangkok Fashion City Road Show 2005-6 event, worked with MIPEL to bring local groups to the show. The cost of staging the Thai portion of the event, including public relations, was about Bt9 million. Italy is one of eight countries JSL plans to visit to showcase and publicise Thai leather, garments and jewellery under the Bangkok Fashion City project. Before attending MIPEL, they arranged activities at three events in three countries, the BaselWorld show in Switzerland, a store promotion at Oriental Plaza in Beijing and a pret-a-porter event in Paris. Tawat plans to discuss with the Thai government how to continue promoting local goods. Additional budget and organisation may be required, he said.
