Nation TV editor punched

Supporters of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra attacked a reporter at Chiang Mai University on Thursday, after a Democrat Party rally was ended abruptly when protesters got out of control.

Nation Channel Chiang Mai editor Prachuab Wangjai said he was punched in the head and then abused as he and his team were getting ready to leave the rally. He said a group of Thaksin supporters had recognised him from Nation Channel and accused him of bias against Thaksin.

The group surrounded the crew and a male protester punched Prachuab in the ear before people rallying with him tackled him.

After the incident Prachuab filed an assault complaint with Phu Ping police station.

He said he feared the safety of reporters working during this period. With society divided in two camps, he feared violence could break out.
