IN BRIEF
Aviation: THAI transfers two routes to low-cost subsidiary Nok Air

Thai Airways International Plc (THAI) cancelled its Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat route on Sunday and will stop flying its Bangkok-Trang route on May 1.

The Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat route is now operated by the national carrier's Nok Air subsidiary through a code-sharing arrangement.

Acting THAI president Somchainuk Engtrakul said the airline was discontinuing the routes due to their high operating costs.

Nok Air, a budget carrier, will operate both routes on the same schedule its parent firm followed.

There is one evening flight a day on the Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat route.

Trade shows: Road shows fuel appetite for booths at annual food expo

Thaifex - World of Food Asia 2006 will draw up to 80,000 international visitors and showcase about 1,800 booths at Muang Thong Thani's Impact Exhibition Centre from May 17-21, organisers of the annual trade fair said.

Chantra Purnariksha, director-general of the Export Promotion Department, said the reservation rate for exhibitors this year was 20 per cent higher than last year, attributing the increase to road shows that have promoted the trade fair around the globe.

Besides the Export Promotion Department, event organisers will be the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the German firm Koelnmesse.

They have conducted road shows promoting the event in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia, plus countries in Africa.

Chantra said the global road show had included stops at numerous food fairs in Thailand and abroad, including the International Boston Seafood Show, Foodex Japan, Gulf Food Dubai and the Japan Food Fair in Thailand.

"Each road show exhibition so far has been a success in promoting the upcoming event among the target audience of food-related business people," said Chantra. - The Nation.
