Court dismisses Shin charge

A legal bid to have concessions awarded to three subsidiaries of telecommunications giant Shin Corp annulled has been dismissed by the Central Administrative Court on a technicality.

The court ruled the complainant, Rangsit University law lecturer Sastra To-on, was not qualified to lodge a

writ, having had nothing to do with the deal.

Sastra was seeking to have television broadcast, satellite communication and mobile phone concessions held by iTV, Shin Satellite and Advanced Info Service respectively declared void.

Sastra said in his complaint that relevant government agencies had failed to perform their duty by allowing the concessions to fall into foreign hands - specifically Singapore's Temasek Holdings.

The court ruled that Sastra had no involvement in the concession contracts and hence no right to litigate.

Sastra said he would file for an appellate review this week.
