Samsung ups handset target

South Korea's electronics giant Samsung is targeting 1.4 million handset sales in Thailand this year, up by 50 per cent from the 900,000 units it sold last year.
By achieving this target, it hopes to acquire a 20-per-cent share of the handset market this year, Thai Samsung Electronics' chief marketing officer Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana said yesterday.The company's general manager for its telecom business Varut Satidtanasarn said the firm would roll out more than 50 new models this year, up from 30 last year. According to Samsung, the total value of the Thai handset market this year was projected to be about Bt50 billion, while the number of the mobile phone subscribers was expected to exceed 32 million users, up from 31 million last year.
