Santi to run for top FTI post

Santi Vilassaksanont, seeking to become the president of the Federation of Thai Industries, has promised to promote the competitiveness and capacity sustainability of small and medium industries if elected.

In an interview with Thai business daily Krungthep Thurakij yesterday, the current FTI deputy president said he would seek knowledge from South Korean and Japanese private organisations to promote Thai industries.

Santi is competing with FTI vice president Kiatpong Nichaiboon to replace outgoing president Prapat Potiworakul as head of the biggest group of local industries. The election will be held on Thursday.

As an executive of Saha Group, Santi said his nomination has the support of the group. He said if elected, he would have Saha's staff on his team to help strengthen industries in the provinces, especially small and medium enterprises, because Saha has an extensive network. He  would also get the group's foreign partners to help FTI members in marketing, finance and management.
