April 2 Election

Govt prepares legal options should all 500 House seats not be filled
Should the Election Commission fail to fill 500 House seats within the 30-day deadline following the April 2 vote, the caretaker government has prepared some legal options to deal with the situation, a senior official said yesterday."A number of possible solutions are ready although caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is yet to issue his instructions," Cabinet secretary-general Bowornsak Uwanno said. ------------------------ Thai Rak Thai Party enlists supernatural help The Thai Rak Thai Party yesterday held a sacred ritual to erect a spirit house in front of the party's headquarters. Many observers believed this was another attempt by caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to end his political trouble through supernatural power. However, he was not present at the ritual. Instead his wife, Khunying Pojaman, made sacred offerings to the spirit house, which included flower garlands, bananas, pineapples, papayas, apples, oranges, coconuts and 10 types of desserts. ------------------------ Kanchanaburi Protest Chamlong 'not wanted here' Former Third Army commander Lt-General Ruamsak Chaikomin yesterday led more than 400 people in protest in front of Chamlong Srimuang's leadership school in Kanchanaburi, calling on him to leave the province. The demonstrators gathered in front of the school in Muang district yesterday morning as Ruamsak, also chairperson of the province's historical society, delivered a speech attacking Chamlong. About 50 police officers watched from the sidelines.
