Border crossing 'auspicious'

If the citizens of Shan State's Tachilek are to be believed, the border cross-ing on Monday by Thailand's belea-guered Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was merely an astrolog-ical act to avert his impending depar-ture from the Kingdom, according to the Shan Herald Agency for News.

On his arrival in Mae Sai, Thaksin crossed Friendship Bridge 1 between the two towns to shake hands with three Burmese officers to express his appreciation for the drug campaign in January that reportedly made a record seizure of speed pills.

"The prime minister is known to be a fervent believer in the influence of the stars in human affairs. By crossing the bridge, he had techni-cally left the country," said Zaray Auto, a Shan who makes a living as a sara - a master of the occult arts.

"So he could come back without fear of any future expulsion by his opponents," he added.

Last month Zaray told a meeting at Chiang Mai University that Thaksin would be under the influence of malevolent planets until July.
